Annoying Phone
There's this kid who rides my morning bus and is in some of my classes sometimes, and he is in general a pretty nice kid. But whenever he gets a notification on his phone, his phone says, in this squeaky, high pitched, fast voice and says "Let me out of your pocket!", though it sounds more like "Lemmieroutayourpocket!!!". It is the kind of noise you find yourself comparing to the noise made when fingernails are dragged down a chalkboard. The kid says he hates it, but my skill in psychology and the logic of deduction is telling me otherwise. He says he doesn't know how to turn it off, and seems to try to imply that it is just how his phone came. And it made him laugh. And to see how correct my judgement was, I started showing him how to turn it off in settings, using my phone as an example, and at first he said he already tried, but very quickly just said something along the lines of "I know", and I could see that he kept it on as a choice, and turned on his phone volume whenever he was allowed, which leads me to the semi-professional conclusion that he actually likes that annoying voice (I have no idea how he can stand it) and also likes to tell people just how much he "hates" it. I am familiar with that kind of weird bragging. I know what it is, and I can quickly spot it, but I still don't know how to fully explain that weird brag. Nor do I have a name for it. How do I know it so well? Well, I used to do it too. So I guess I now just have to find some way to (politely) persuade him to change his notifications sound to something that isn't so annoying and doesn't sound like nails on a chalkboard. I have some ideas of how to do this, but not any good ones. Anyways, I have math to do, and I shall do it. But before I go, I just wanted to apologize for not posting more recently. Also, if you are someone specific, who worked on helicopters in Hawaii, you know who you are. And could you please help me with that phone problem?
